Aquarium Volume Calculator
Estimate theoretical tank water volume from shape and dimensions. Results in litres, UK (imperial) gallons, and US gallons.
Rectangle: L × W × H. Cylinder: π × r² × H (r = diameter ÷ 2). Sphere: (4/3)π × r³. Full geometric volume — rock/sand not deducted.
Volume result
Enter all required dimensions to see the volume.
This is full geometric volume. Actual water volume is usually lower after rock, sand, and equipment displacement.Aquarium volume formulas
- Square / rectangle: length × width × height. Keep all sides in the same unit (cm or m), then convert to litres.
- Cylinder: π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × height. Ideal for upright cylinder tanks or round vessels with fixed height.
- Sphere: (4/3) × π × (diameter ÷ 2)³. Use this for full spherical aquariums.
Aquarium volume FAQ
Does the litre result already deduct rock and sand?
No. The result is 100% geometric volume. Actual water volume is usually lower after rock, sand, and equipment displacement.
What is the difference between UK and US gallons?
A UK (imperial) gallon is about 4.546 L. A US gallon is about 3.785 L. The calculator shows both for international product guides.
Should I use centimetres or metres?
Both are supported. For home aquariums, centimetres are usually easier. Use the same unit for every dimension.
